The Voipir Glacier Trail — Voipir means “new snow” in the Mapuche language — is located in Villarrica National Park, on the volcano’s western slope. This hike is an excellent option to explore the base of Villarrica Volcano and its impressive glacier, while enjoying panoramic views of Llaima, Lonquimay, Sierra Nevada, and Mocho-Choshuenco volcanoes.

🌿 The hike begins through a magnificent native forest of coigüe, lenga, and ancient araucaria trees, before reaching an open volcanic area where the landscape transforms dramatically.

From there, we continue to the Voipir Glacier Viewpoint, or a bit higher to reach the edge of the eternal ice. When conditions allow, we can observe impressive ice formations, crevasses, and arches, and even walk closer to the glacier equipped with crampons — an unforgettable experience right next to the ice..
